October's news: squashes, spices, and bulk

I know that you don’t need me to remind you, but by golly it is definitely autumn now. Why is it that the changing of the seasons, somehow both repetitive and surprising, invariably invites us to mutter to each other; ‘isn’t it getting dark early?’ and ‘certainly feeling chilly today!’? I think it’s that seasonal weather is one of few things that is a shared blessing, or indeed, a common curse. It is something that unites us, reminding us of our cohabitation - after all, the rain falls on both the just and the unjust. It retains, in our secular world, an impression of mystery and omnipotence, a sphere of nature that humanity has yet to conquer. So yes, autumn has finally arrived at the door - welcome her in, and prepare the table.

For your autumnal table spreads, come on down to Gold Hill Organic Farm Shop, where you’ll find all you need for a dark evening’s warming stew. You can’t go wrong with a hearty concoction of roots, squashes, herbs and spices. And to drink, we stock local apple juice, and delicious gingery fruity blends - think mulled wine without the hangover.

The cafe too is embracing the autumnal air, serving up sumptuous soups and suchlike, with warming teas and coffees to brighten a cloudy day. Open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10 to 4, the cafe is your perfect local stop for a catch up with friends or a destination on a dog walk.

Lastly, did you know we take bulk orders for various dried and fresh produce? From cashew nuts to cucumbers, lemons to lentils, we can offer a wide range of fruit, vegetables and nuts in medium to large quantities - ideal for your juicing diets or festive snacks. Dried goods can last for many months, so it’s well worth buying plenty in advance. Grab yourself a bargain by buying in bulk! Ask in shop for details.
