News Update for September 2010!

This month at Goldhill Organic Farm: New born chicks hatched on the 20th of August are now twittering in their pen in the front paddock. A new calf was born to ‘Parsley’ on the 17th August and managed to get stuck in the hollow of one of the old lime trees in the same paddock. Young calves will sometimes try to hide amongst thistles, nettles and hollow trees thinking it’s a good idea. This particular new calf then decided to wedge itself in the tree hollow good and tight, only the bellowing of Parsley (Mother) alerted us to where the young calf was.
At present we are growing sunflowers for their seeds, however these delicious morsels are also raided by the local wildlife / birds that enjoy them very much as well! Goldhill’s sweet corn was two and a half weeks early this year and even better tasting than the previous year. Both the corn and our cherry tomatoes have both enjoyed a drier summer this year, basking in the warming rays to produce the juicy and delicious taste you have come to expect from Goldhill’s produce. The photograph featured below was taken in ‘The Cake Tin Café’ and features a box of our finest vegetables! The cafe is enjoying ever swelling ranks of new visitors especially those dropping in from the popular Local ‘Trail way’ or after climbing Hambledon Hill. |
