The idea behind Screen Bites is to introduce you, the audience, to the feast of food producers to be found in Dorset and surrounding areas. The evening will start with a mini farmers market of Dorset food producers offering tastings and selling their wares so bring some cash and a big bag to stash your goods in! Then, the lights dim, and it’s time for the show to begin. Here at the farm, we will be showing "The Real Dirt on Farmer John"... get ready for what is in former vice president Al Gore's words, a film that is "unbelievably special"!
Doors will open on Saturday 15th September from 7pm so you can explore the market, tasting and purchasing some of the delicious produce Dorset has to offer! There will also be a café, bar and refreshments for the show. You are also welcome to walk round the farm from 6 pm, Sara will be giving a guided walk so you can see for yourself where the bounty in the shop is from!
The Art Stable Gallery, Emsie Sharp glass workshop, and Rachel Sargent's art studio will all be open so come along and see the incredible artists we have on site at the farm. You can book your tickets through the Screen Bites events page Tickets for the whole evening are priced at £8.00 and there are limited places available so get your reservation in quick!
The Real Dirt On Farmer John (2005). Filmmaker Taggart Siegel captures two turbulent decades in the life of John Peterson, an Illinois farmer who not only tends the land but also delves into writing and performance art. A man who would as soon work the fields in a feather boa as in a pair of jeans, Peterson rises out of the bankruptcy and depression plaguing Midwest farm communities in the 1980s and saves his livelihood through organic agriculture.
This film promises to be uplifting and unique, as the New York Times says "It's an unflinching account of what farming takes -- and, more important, what it gives back". Watch the trailer and see for yourself, we are in for a real treat here at Gold Hill Organic Farm
Meanwhile on the farm, its the Soil Associations #OrganicSeptember and summer is definitely still in full swing, with heady Mediterranean flavours wafting out of every tunnel in the early morning sun. Who needs filters, when you have aubergines like these? And if you are into fresh, free range, organic and award winning chicken we'll have Angel Cottage chickens in next Thursday. If you have a particular order in mind, make sure to phone ahead (01258 861 916). Last week we had 12 orders and 15 whole chickens in total, so let us know to avoid disappointment!
